Design as a Practice: A Process of Diagnosis and Solution

I believe that design , much like medicine, is more about practice than just skills. Just as doctors continuously improve through patient care, designers refine their abilities by consistently applying design principles in real-world scenarios. The process of diagnosing and solving a problem in design mirrors the medical approach: it involves thorough research, understanding user needs, ideation, prototyping, and iteration. In both fields, professionals begin by identifying needs and conducting detailed analysis, then develop tailored solutions through a mix of creativity and systematic methods. Concepts like design thinking, user experience (UX), and human-centered design highlight the importance of empathy and continuous improvement. Much like in medicine, the effectiveness of a designer’s solutions grows with ongoing practice, critical thinking, and adaptation.
